Base principles of LEKO are the same as of any instrumental system of software development:

- integrated environment;

- specialized program language;

- built-in functions;

- visualization of calculation and analytical control;

- user-friendly integrated environment.

integrated environment

Integrated environment of software development includes all the necessary elements and provides disks and provides quick and convenient work with necessary functions. If you know the possibilities of system, you need not any additional service.

specialized program language

In order to find optimal solutions for programming in special fields, as a rule, special object-oriented program languages are being developed. These languages are of the same characteristics as program languages, but they use terminus of the field. As it was mentioned above, for LEKO specialized original language of geometrical constructions, completed with effective syntax and semantic rules referred to recording of operators, qualificators, identificators' names, generating. The language is based on the method of point destination of geometrical objects via calculation formulas. The language includes elements of object-oriented approach, providing the user with compact and clear record of geometric constructions.

built-in functions

To facilitate the records and to multiple the possibilities of program language, it is completed with the set of built-in functions, which formally are not elements of program language, but are being used as these elements. Almost all functions can be realized via main elements of the language (point calculation). Built-in functions allow to simplify algorithm recording and to improve its readability and clearness.

visualization of calculation and analytical control

Visualization of calculations, which is graphic performance of final and intermediate calculation results, means both the goal of development and additional means of mastering the program. The system is provided with visual control of development, which allows to review all geometrical objects with any specification degree, and analytical control of designing, which allows to review the consequence of geometrical objects definition, its coordinates and other parameters.

user-friendly integrated environment

Friendliness is one of the main characteristics of integrated environment. It includes ergonomic requirements, convenience and simplicity in work. LEKO provides you with option of commands via menu and unification of included systems. Low-leveled language allows to record any changes and constructions, that makes the system unlimited in use.

The similarity of algorithms of apparel models development and software gives us the possibility to preview the effect of putting the system into operation as well as father development. Putting the system into operation at several enterprises allows to rise up to new level; collective developing of design methods instead of work of highly-qualified masters, who are so rare. Calculating-analytical methods of construction, geometric transformations, object-oriented approach, completed with due software, can subsequently improve quality of modeler's work.

LEKO gives the modeler new possibilities. You can use it traditionally, repeating manually-made constructions. But much more considerable effect you shell get if you change "manual" pattern making at following directions:

- simplifying design process due to reduce of intermediate constructions (i.e. work with rectangular net), joining several operations into one (i.e. search of arc intersection) and change to more general transformations (no intermediate lines or arcs are required; they all are replaced with commands "mark off", "revolve" etc.);

- increase of construction preciseness due to use of full calculation formulas instead of approximation coefficients, use of precious table of measurements;

- new design possibilities (splines, angular values trigonometry, built-in functions, i.e. symmetry, transfer, cone division, "flexible rule" method etc.);

- development of construction according to proportions, use of measurement database, that results in automate patterns grading - for every size/height;

- creating of simple, easily changed methods, parameterization of designing models, creating of database of construction methods and models;

- taking into account sewing technology and technical characteristics of fabric at construction level ("reduce" of segments cut on the bias, previewing the further stretching; setting maximal coefficients of fabric fitting etc.).

With LEKO, even main sewing concepts can be changed - for example, the concept of paper pattern as a basic thing becomes useless. The main in LEKO is the method of construction; the modeler, by means of inputting different allowances (seam/hem, model etc.) and varying construction parameters, can get different variants of the base pattern to be technically designed.

Usually, the modeler has to manually adjust pattern segments, check lengths, conjunctions (angles), that is time-consuming. In LEKO the modeler inputs conditions of conjunction of different details at method level. You do not need to check these conjunctions any more: all the conditions are kept for any size/height, allowances and other parameters.

There are two stages of work with LEKO:

- to write the consequence of construction, that guarantees the adjustment of all segments of patterns (you can do it independently, without having a life-size pattern);

- to choose seam/hem allowances, line forms, detail sizes according to requirements of designer as well as technology (this stage claims for more quantity of patterns to choose to optimal one).

When the modeler works manually, it complicates the process of changing the patterns. With LEKO, the modeler just conceptually describes interdependencies of pattern sectors.

Making designs is an art, but what differs it from drawing is strictly defined rules. You can have the concrete correlations for nearly every constructive moment (lengths, angles and form in general). Usually, these are trigonometric correlations, which are in practice taken as correlations of lengths, proportions, "smoothness" of lines. All these correlations are included in all calculation methods of pattern making, but sometimes they are hidden behind the method of construction and previously calculated coefficients.

Powerful calculating possibilities of LEKO will enable you to calculate formulas and to replace approximate formulas based on pre-calculated coefficients with full calculation formulas. The user can get these extremely precious formulas from interdependencies (during the process of pattern making and stitch lines layout). For this approach, you should refresh your knowledge of trigonometry, correlations of triangle sides, planimetry. It could disappoint you, but please be sure:

all the correlations will be made independently of designer's wish, but the user can choose the way how to get it - through calculation of formulas or by means of selecting and control sewing of samples. There is no possibility that one day the laws of trigonometry and planimetry stop their existence.

Use the following laws of trigonometry, and you reduce algorithm recording and make the program clearer:

- transferring linear values into angular values and vise versa;

- revolves;

- correlations of right triangle;

- linear functions.

Design making in LEKO does not claims for concrete figures. The designer can take measurements from database: it is no necessary for him/her to know measurements of concrete person. The designer can also does not know segment lengths and curve-line portions of patterns, which is being used in calculation formulas. The designer's task is to define consequence of these values and concrete type of dependence (i.e. to create the side of front part, using the length of the side of back part), which will be computerized.

We have found, during our interviewing designers, that they are still not able to use the computer in their work - for psychological reason. It is due to:

- difficulties in independent formalization of modeler's knowledge and experience;

- absence of computer-oriented methods;

- absence of any mathematic methods developed for modeler's work.

It is considered - for unknown reason - that it is impossible to use mathematics for pattern drafting. It may be true for pattern making in general, but false for particular conjunctions. When the designer adjusts model conjunctions, he/she often tries to manually get a dependence obviously described via mathematic formula, and sometimes these formulas are rather simple.

Our experience shows that LEKO allows considerable reduce the designing period of new models and minimize the developing period of new models. You shall quickly get models of highest quality, if you have methods of construction for particular conjunctions.

VILAR SOFT Ltd. develops LEKO-oriented construction methods. When we deliver our system, we also offer our customers ready construction methods for different assortment (individual methods, methods developed for fashion houses, CMEA UCM (Unified Construction Method) and, of course, methods worked out by specialists of VILAR SOFT Ltd.). Detailed description of the system (containing examples and recommendations) will allow you to familiarize yourself with basic rules and principles of the system within several days. The main advantage of LEKO is that it is not only technical system which is able to solve design tasks, but also new principles of work.

LEKO has been developed since 1989 by specialists of VILAR SOFT Ltd., which is software developer. LEKO is usable both autonomously and integrated with marker making CAD.
